Service Description

Disability is part of the lives of many of our clients, and of many therapists. Yet it is often missing from our training, our supervision and our thinking. What do we notice, what do we avoid, and what does the client experience when we get it wrong? Over two days, Gemma Mason invites counsellors and psychotherapists to think about disability psychotherapeutically. That means paying attention to the conscious work and also to the unconscious processes, assumptions and blind spots we bring into the room. Gemma's approach brings together her clinical work, her doctoral research and her own lived experience of disability. How we'll work The course combines teaching and experiential learning: a didactic presentation small- and large-group discussion case presentations time for group process You'll be invited to reflect honestly on your own biases and questions. The course offers a space to be curious, not one where you need to get things right. By the end of the course you will: have a solid knowledge base for considering the dimensions of disability in your clinical work be more aware of your unconscious biases and professional blind spots in this area have new theoretical insights, and fresh ways to apply concepts you already know Who it's for: trainees through to post-qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. About the presenter Gemma Mason is a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (TSTA) based in the South West of England. She runs a psychotherapy, supervision and freelance training practice.
